Students in Mr. Kenkel's microbiology lab had a task to submit a pure culture and identify the type of bacteria (cocci, bacillus, spirillum) and whether the bacteria were gram-positive or gram-negative using the Gram stain, which is a procedure to determine what type of antibiotic could be used to neutralize the bacteria. #CultureOfConfidence

The first and second graders have been "heart" at work in the music room for the past two weeks. They have been using heartbeat strips to write their own rhythm patterns. After some practice, they joined four strips together to write a four-measure rhythm composition. When they mastered clapping the song, they played it on a bass bar. The final step was moving to the xylophone and matalophone instruments to turn the rhythm into a melodic composition. We love hearing the music that they created! #CultureOfConfidence

On Saturday, Ogallala Speech Team competed in their last regular season meet in North Platte at the Best of the West Tournament. Ogallala placed second behind North Platte. Mrs. Coggins and some Kindergarten students are head over heels to be at school! They are demonstrating an example of “heavy work.” Heavy work benefits young and older learners in many ways, including self-regulation and feeling calmer. It is also proven to strengthen muscles, aid body awareness, improve clarity, focus, and alertness, and extend one’s attention span. #CultureOfConfidence

Mrs. Harmon’s 7th-grade reading classes used the board game Clue to work on making inferences and predictions. We love seeing our students highly engaged in activities that directly relate to their learning! #CultureOfConfidence

At the February OPSD School Board meeting, the board honored 3 model students! These students have shown what it means to do things “The OG Way.” They are risk-takers in and out of the classroom. They show grit in all they do. And they take ownership of their learning. We are so proud of our February students of the month, Ridley Cone (elementary), Jagger Barnhill (middle grades), and Hailey Webber (high school). Keep up the great work! Prairie View Ambassadors presented their idea to the Youth Inspired Philanthropy Contest! The group of students presented their idea of gifting each new student to Prairie View with a welcome bag full of goodies for them to use as they start their educational journey at Ogallala Public Schools.
