School Bus Safety Procedures and Discipline

Dear Parents & Guardians:

Ogallala Public Schools is committed to the safety of our students. Talk to your child about the following procedures to help ensure success with our bussing services. Please remember that students are expected to self-manage behaviors at all times on the busses. Thus, a level of maturity is required to ride.

Student Behavior and Procedures

Riding the bus is a privilege, and pupils must obey all rules and regulations. The driver is in charge of the bus, and students shall render him/her the same respect and courtesy given to a teacher. The following are bus riding procedures and consequences for misbehavior:

While waiting for the bus:

  • Get to your bus stop 10 minutes early.

  • Stay back from the edge of the road and wait until the bus comes to a stop before attempting to get on.

When boarding or leaving the bus:

  • Cross properly in front of the bus only.

  • Beware of passing cars.

While on the Bus:

  • Do not do anything which distracts the driver’s attention.

  • Remain seated until the bus stops.

  • Keep feet and articles out of the aisles.

  • Keep your head and arms inside the bus.

  • Be quiet when crossing railroad tracks.

  • Do not shout, whistle or gesture from the bus windows.

  • Students must sit three in an individual seat when necessary and move over to make room for others.

In case of emergency:

  • Remain calm and listen to the driver’s instructions.

Bus Discipline / Consequences

  1. Students who fail to comply with the driver's rules may be suspended and possibly removed indefinitely from the bus.

  2. Students who deface the bus in any way will pay for the damage and cannot ride the bus until arrangements have been made to pay for such damages.

First Discipline Offense (after driver/para warning)

  • Possible Detention, ISS, OSS

  • Suspension from riding the bus for 3 School Days

Second Discipline Offense

Routes and Leave Times

  • Please be at your bus stop 10 minutes early to help keep the buses on time.

  • Routes will change as our needs change from students moving. Please consistently review the routes for possible time changes we may have.
