May 11, 2017

Tennis Results

McCook Invite

5-11-17

Teams:  Gering, Hastings, McCook, Ogallala, Scottsbluff

Team Results:  1st McCook   2nd Ogallala

#1 Singles:  Maddie Herman  3-1;  2nd Place

def Emma Mays, Hastings, 8-4

def by Cassiddy Beebe, 3-8

def Rachel Hancock, Scottsbluff, 8-3

def Bobbi Clafflin, Gering, 8-1

Maddie played very well today. She played with more confidence, moved the ball around and served well.  She used more strategy today, being patient and then moving in for the kill shot then the time was right.

#2 Singles:  Annie Cleveland, 0-4

def by Bailey Kopisch, Hastings, 2-8

def by Kassidy Michaelis, McCook, 1-8

def by Sarah Woodward, Scottsbluff, 0-8

def by Anessa Escamilla, 6-8

Annie had a tough day today. She just couldn’t get a rhythm going. Things just didn’t go her way.

#1 Doubles:  Kacey Jaeger and Kira Mestl, 1-3

def by Amanda Karr and Murphy Glen, Hastings, 6-8

def by Lauren Koetter and Kacee Samway, McCook,  4-8

def Alisha Hyunh and Moriah Wyre, Scottsbluff, 8-3

def by Riley Hansen and Kori Uerling, McCook, 4-8 (sub for Gering position)

Kacey and Kira had a tough day also.  They seemed to be out of sync, not playing at their usual higher level.  They were definitely not in the good graces of the tennis gods today.

#2 Doubles:  Lily Fair and Maddie Mendoza, 3-1; 2nd Place

def Lucia Smith and Anna Cafferty, Hastings, 8-1

def by Katie Kjendal and Syd Thompson, 7-9

def Tieesha Allsides and Brooke DeSha, Scottsbluff, 8-4

def Sheridan Blanco and Paige Peterson, Gering, 8-2

Lily and Maddie just seem to get better each time they step on the courts. Today all aspects of their game were in sync: serving, net play, communication.  They really mixed up their shots and kept their opponents off balance.

#3 Doubles:  Morgan Gager and Payton Stewart, 3-1, 2nd Place

def Rebecca Weis and Olivia Scheffield, Scottsbluff, 8-2  (sub for Hastings)

def by Haley Potthoff and Syd Steward, McCook, 4-8

def Bridgett Lockard and Hally Wilkins, Scottsbluff, 8-4

def Rylee Mooney and Jodie Stevens, McCook, 8-6 (sub for Gering)

This was Payton and Morgan’s first varsity match playing together. They have played our #1 JV spot for the majority of the season and McCook always adds a #3 doubles spot for their invite. They didn’t let us down.  This second place for them is great! Unfortunately, the JV season is over as we only have the state meet left next week. We are looking forward to seeing how they compete for a varsity spot next year.
