Tennis Results

Kearney Catholic Invite

Teams:  Adams Central, Alliance, Beatrice, Gering, GICC, Hastings, Hastings St. Cecilia, Kearney Catholic, Lexington, Lincoln Christian, McCook, Ogallala

#1 Singles:  Maddie Herman,  3-3; 7th Place

def Courntey Little Hoop, Alliance, 8-4

def by Emma Mays, Hastings,  2-8

def by Lilli Fattig, Lexington,  0-8

def by Chloe Dworak, Lincoln Christian,  3-8

def Sasha Richards, Adams Central,  8-3

def Bobbie Clafflin, Gering,  8-1

Maddie played really well at times and then she struggled at times.  She played Lincoln Christian really tough, taking many of the games to deuce.  Once again, the scores don’t always reflect the level of play in tennis.  We have no doubt she will come back strong for our next meet.

#2 Singles:  Annie Cleveland, 1-5;  10th Place

def by Brooke Eschenbrenner, Kearney Catholic,  3-8

def by Kassidy Michaelis, McCook, 0-8

def Camryn Rassmussen, Hastings St. Cecilia, 8-5

def by Lulu Acosta, Alliance,  8-9 (9-11 tiebreaker)

def by Brooklyn Schrader, Lincoln Christian,  4-8

def by Anessa Escamilla, Gering,  0-8

Annie is really gaining confidence at playing singles.  She played well today having served much better – even had a few aces.  She also played more offense, moving the ball around and getting her opponents out of position.

#1 Doubles:  Kacey Jaeger and Kira Mestl,  4-2;  4th Place

def McKenna Romick and Elise Stoike,  Alliance,  8-2

def Emily Saadi and Nichole Shundoff, Kearney Catholic,  9-8 (10-8 tiebreaker)

def Monica Wahlmerier and Sofia Martinez,  Hasting St. Cecilia,  8-2

def by Lauren Koetter and Kacee Samway, McCook,  2-8

def Gering (by forfeit)

def by Hannah Alexander and Kelsey Wrightsman, Adams Central, 8-9 (7-9 tiebreaker)

Kacey and Kira play very well today.  A couple of matches they were down and came back to win.  They had two matches go into tiebreakers, which are tough. The only hiccup was against McCook. They are a great team and super competitive.  Our girls just need to get past the mental block they have, because they can play right with them if they believe.  Kacey and Kira have one more shot at them before state.

#2 Doubles:  Lily Fair and Maddie Mendoza,  3-3;  6th  Place

def Diana Acosta and Marque Crowe, Alliance,  9-7

def by Jenna Lowry and Avery Kalvada, Grand Island Central Catholic, 2-8

def Sheridan Blanc and Paige Peterson, Gering, 8-5

def by Annie Trettel and Sarah Oldfather, Kearney Catholic, 2-8

def Lucia Smith and Anna Cafferty, Hastings, 8-2

Def by Daniell Lindeman and Jordan Hagan, Lexington, 6-8

Lily and Maddie are really starting to come together.  Today, they played more offense, looking for the “kill shot” and using more strategy.  They are both very competitive and sometimes when things aren’t going as well as they would like, they have a hard time “forgetting” that and moving on. Good athletes have short-term memory – you cannot dwell on the last shot or game, you have to let that go and focus on what is coming. As their confidence level rises, they will be able to play more relaxed and the shots will fall.
