Ogallala High School Girls Golf 2016

Ogallala High School Girls Golf

By: Kylee Leman and Demi Thode

Coach Kim Mestl has 9 golfers this year including Seniors Haley Nolde, Maddie Herman, Gabby Coviello, and Annie Cleveland; Junior Kira Mestl; Sophomore Abigail Crandall; and Freshmen Kaylee Wach, Harley Hiltibrand, and Ryanna DeVries.

The girls had their first golf meet on Thursday, August 18th at North Platte where they defeated the Bulldogs. We asked the girls how they thought the season opener went.

“It went good. We had a lot of fun,” said senior Haley Nolde.

“I think it went really good and showed the new people what golf is really like,” reported senior Madison Herman.

Junior Kira Mestl told us, “We did really well on the 18th. It was a little different because it was our first dual, but it was still a good day”

Sophomore Abigail Crandall reported, “I think our team did well. We beat North Platte in the dual, so it was a good start to the season.”

Coach Kimberly Mestl told us that she thought the team did “fantastic.” According to Coach Mestl, it was a great opportunity for the girls to start the year off at a small meet to give all the golfers some experience.

The Lady Indian Golfers followed up that victory with a second place team finish at an invitational in Sydney on Tuesday, August 23. The two medal winners were Kira who shot an 81, taking 2nd place after losing a tiebreaker, and Abbie who placed 7th for the JV with a 119.
